Most people think of Kashmir and Ladakh as two separate trips, and most travel sites treat them that way too, with two package categories, two pages and two bookings. But if you have 8 days or more, a combined Kashmir Leh Ladakh tour package makes more sense than it looks on paper. You are already flying into Srinagar for one leg. Driving out to Leh instead of flying home turns a transfer day into one of the best road trips in the country, and it solves the altitude problem that catches people who fly straight into Leh from sea level.

We have been running Kashmir tours since 2009 and started adding Ladakh legs a few years back for exactly this reason. The demand was already there, but people did not know a Kashmir Leh Ladakh tour package was something they could book as one trip instead of stitching two bookings together. For the bigger picture on each region, our Kashmir travel guide and Ladakh travel guide cover permits, seasons and routes. You can also read about our team on the About Us page.

Why Book Kashmir and Ladakh as One Trip

A Kashmir Leh Ladakh tour package is not two itineraries taped together. The drive between them is a genuine part of the experience, not a logistics problem to get through.

Better altitude acclimatisation. Leh sits at roughly 3,500 metres. Fly there directly from Delhi or Mumbai and your body has no time to adjust, which is how altitude sickness happens. Drive from Srinagar instead, gaining height gradually over two days through Sonamarg and Kargil, and you arrive in Leh already partly acclimatised. This is the biggest practical reason to choose a Kashmir Leh Ladakh tour package over two separate flights.

One of India’s great road trips, included rather than skipped. The Srinagar to Leh highway moves from pine forest and green valleys into bare Himalayan desert within a single day’s drive, a change most travellers only see in photos. A Kashmir Leh Ladakh tour package means you live that transition instead of flying over it.

Fewer flights, more days spent outdoors. One entry, one exit and one road connecting both legs, instead of two return flights and two airport transfer days.

Srinagar to Leh: The Route Your Package Runs On

Every Kashmir Leh Ladakh tour package we run uses the Srinagar to Leh highway (NH1), so it is worth understanding before you book. For the full logistics of this drive, see our Srinagar to Leh road trip and permit details guide and our page on Ladakh road trips and high-altitude routes.

  • Distance: Roughly 434 km, done as a 2-day drive with an overnight halt at Kargil. We do not attempt it in one long day, since that pushes both driving fatigue and altitude gain too fast.
  • Route: Srinagar, Sonamarg, Zoji La, Dras, Kargil (overnight), Namika La, Fotu La, Leh.
  • Key passes: Zoji La (about 3,528 m), Namika La (about 3,700 m) and Fotu La (about 4,108 m). Fotu La is the highest point on the route.
  • Season: The highway typically opens between late March and May and closes again by November or December, depending on snowfall. A Kashmir Leh Ladakh tour package is therefore bookable roughly from May to October in a normal year. We confirm exact dates before quoting, and you can check pass status on the J&K Tourism site as your dates approach.
  • Infrastructure: The Z-Morh tunnel keeps Sonamarg reachable through the year. The Zojila Tunnel, a big change for any future Kashmir Leh Ladakh tour package, which will eventually make the whole route usable in winter, had its excavation breakthrough on 9 June 2026, but officials expect public opening only in February 2028. For now, Zoji La itself is still crossed in the open, so timing depends on seasonal road clearance.
  • Permits: The highway itself needs no permit. Beyond Leh, Nubra Valley, Pangong Lake and Tso Moriri have their own rules, which we cover in the permits section below.

Dras, along the way, is worth the stop most itineraries give it. It is home to the Dras War Memorial and is one of the coldest inhabited places in India, which you notice the moment you step out of the vehicle, even in June. Read more about the stretch in our Kargil, Dras and Suru Valley guide.

Kashmir Leh Ladakh Classic: 9 Nights / 10 Days (Our Most-Booked Plan)

This is the itinerary most people mean when they search for a Kashmir Leh Ladakh tour package. It gives enough time in Kashmir to avoid rushing, plus a proper Ladakh leg on the other side.

  • Days 1 and 2: Arrive in Srinagar, houseboat stay on Dal Lake, Mughal Gardens and Srinagar sightseeing.
  • Day 3: Day trip to Gulmarg. Gondola tickets are booked and paid separately, and we help with tickets through our Gulmarg Gondola ticket booking page.
  • Day 4: Drive to Pahalgam, with sightseeing at Betaab and Aru. See our Pahalgam tour packages for the full sightseeing list.
  • Day 5: Drive Srinagar to Sonamarg to Kargil, crossing Zoji La, with a stop at the Dras War Memorial. Overnight in Kargil.
  • Day 6: Drive Kargil to Leh via Namika La and Fotu La. Rest on arrival to acclimatise.
  • Day 7: Leh local sightseeing: monasteries, Shanti Stupa and Leh Palace.
  • Day 8: Drive to Nubra Valley via Khardung La, overnight in a camp.
  • Day 9: Drive to Pangong Lake and stay by the water. Read about it in Pangong Lake: The Blue That Defies Reality.
  • Day 10: Return to Leh and depart.

Starting from: Rs 52,000 per person (twin sharing). Gulmarg to Pahalgam often takes 4 to 5 hours, which is why we do not combine them in one day.

Want the longer version with Zanskar and Tso Moriri? That is our 11 nights / 12 days Complete plan. See the Tso Moriri and Zanskar Valley guides, and ask us for a quote.

A common mistake is picking a Kashmir Leh Ladakh tour package only by price. Count the nights in Leh, because every extra rest night there improves how you feel on the high passes.

What Is Included in a Kashmir Leh Ladakh tour package

  • Hotel stays in Srinagar (with one houseboat night), Pahalgam or Gulmarg, Kargil and Leh, plus camp stays in Nubra and Pangong
  • All transfers by private vehicle, including the Srinagar to Kargil to Leh drive, with driver allowance, tolls and parking
  • Permit paperwork for Nubra Valley, Pangong Lake and Tso Moriri where applicable
  • Daily breakfast and dinner throughout
  • All listed sightseeing in both the Kashmir and Ladakh legs

Not included: flights to Srinagar and from Leh (or the reverse), lunches, Gondola tickets, camel safaris and personal expenses. This is standard across every operator’s Kashmir Leh Ladakh tour package, and we do not hide it. Ask any company for the same list before you compare a Kashmir Leh Ladakh tour package quote.

Permits for Indian and Foreign Travellers

Paperwork is the part of a Kashmir Leh Ladakh tour package that most guests do not want to manage themselves.

Indian nationals no longer need a separate Inner Line Permit for Ladakh. It is now the Ladakh Environment and Development Fee, filed online, with a receipt carried at checkpoints. Foreign nationals still need a Protected Area Permit for areas such as Nubra and Pangong, processed through a registered agent in Leh. Rules change, so check the official Ladakh Tourism site. We handle this paperwork as part of every Kashmir Leh Ladakh tour package, and our Ladakh permits for foreign nationals guide explains the foreign process.

Acclimatisation: The Part Most Packages Skip Over

This is where a good Kashmir Leh Ladakh tour package differs most from a cheap one.

Every Kashmir Leh Ladakh tour package should build in a real rest day in Leh before pushing on to Nubra or Pangong. Not a token half-day, but an actual day with minimal activity. Leh sits at about 3,500 m, and Khardung La, on the way to Nubra, rises above 5,300 m. Mild symptoms such as headache, breathlessness on exertion and poor sleep are common in the first 24 to 48 hours, and usually settle with rest, water and avoiding alcohol. We build the rest day into every itinerary above as standard, and our drivers carry basic oxygen support on the Nubra and Pangong legs as a precaution.

A few practical points. Medical facilities along the Srinagar, Kargil and Leh stretch are limited outside the main towns, so this is not a route for anyone who needs regular access to care. Drones are generally not permitted for tourists in J&K and Ladakh, so leave yours at home. Ladakh also restricts plastic, so carry a reusable bottle. On connectivity, postpaid SIMs generally work best once you are past Leh, and prepaid connections from outside the region often stop working, so check with your operator before you travel. For the cold and the altitude, our complete packing list for high-altitude Ladakh trips covers what to bring.

Best Time for a Kashmir Leh Ladakh tour package

The season decides whether your Kashmir Leh Ladakh tour package is possible at all.

  • June to September. The core window. The highway is fully open, Pangong and Nubra are accessible, and Kashmir is at its greenest. Most of our Kashmir Leh Ladakh tour packages run in this window.
  • May and early October. Shoulder season. The highway is usually open, but nights are colder at altitude and late snow can still appear near Pangong in May.
  • November to April. Not bookable as a combined road package, because Zoji La closes for winter and the Srinagar to Leh road shuts. This window works for a Kashmir-only trip, so see Kashmir in winter, the best time for snowfall in Kashmir and our winter tour packages.

For Foreign Travellers: Kashmir and Ladakh in One Trip

A Kashmir Leh Ladakh tour package suits foreign visitors who want mountains, culture and a proper road journey. A few extra points apply. Rules can change, so confirm on official sites.

  • Visa. Most foreign visitors use the Indian e-Visa through the official Indian e-Visa portal, and the type must match the trip.
  • Protected Area Permit. Needed for several Ladakh areas, so share passport details with us early.
  • Form C. Every hotel, houseboat, camp and homestay hosting a foreign guest must submit Form C through the FRRO system. We only arrange stays that complete Form C.
  • Government advice and insurance. Read your own government’s travel advice and buy insurance that covers high-altitude travel.
  • Winter. Winter is the wrong season for a combined road trip. Foreign visitors who want snow should plan a Kashmir winter trip and come back for Ladakh in summer. Ladakh in the deep cold is a specialised trip with many camps closed, so ask us before you plan it.
  • Practical. Fly into Delhi, carry cash because cards fail in remote camps, and ask us before buying a SIM card.

Planning Your Route and Budget

Budget and time are the two questions every Kashmir Leh Ladakh tour package enquiry starts with.

If you are still deciding how much time to give each side, our Kashmir tour package page covers the valley on its own, and the Leh Ladakh tour packages page covers Ladakh alone. Shorter Ladakh options include the 4 nights 5 days Ladakh package, the 5 nights 6 days Ladakh package and the 7 nights 8 days Ladakh package. Why Book Your Kashmir Leh Ladakh tour package with Us

We have been arranging Kashmir tours since 2009, and the Kashmir Leh Ladakh tour package is the trip we get the most detailed planning questions about: permits, acclimatisation, and whether to fly or drive in which direction. We handle the permit paperwork, brief every group on altitude before departure, and build a genuine rest day into the Leh leg instead of squeezing it out to save a night’s hotel cost.

To confirm a booking we take a 25% advance, not the full amount. Cancellation charges rise as the date nears: a small fee at 30 or more days, 50% at 20 to 30 days, 75% at 10 to 19 days and 100% under 10 days. You can check our reviews on our Google Business Profile before you book. Our note on choosing a local tour operator in Srinagar lists the questions to ask any company, and agents can see our B2B Kashmir travel partner page.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many days do I need for a Kashmir Leh Ladakh tour package?

8 days is the minimum for a rushed version; 9–10 days is comfortable and covers Srinagar, Gulmarg or Pahalgam, and the core Ladakh sights (Nubra and Pangong); 11–12 days lets you add Zanskar or Tso Moriri without cutting the Kashmir leg short.

Is it better to fly to Leh or drive from Kashmir?

For a combined Kashmir Leh Ladakh tour package, driving from Srinagar is the better choice for acclimatization — you gain altitude gradually over two days instead of jumping from sea level to 3,500 m in a two-hour flight. Flying is faster but raises your risk of altitude sickness on arrival.

Do I need permits for a Kashmir Leh Ladakh tour package?

No permit is needed for the Srinagar–Leh highway itself. You need an Inner Line Permit for Nubra Valley, Pangong Lake, and Tso Moriri, which we arrange as part of the package.

When is the Srinagar–Leh highway open?

Typically late March/April through November, depending on snowfall at Zoji La — this is also the window during which a Kashmir Leh Ladakh tour package is bookable as a road-based trip. Outside this window, Kashmir and Ladakh have to be booked as separate trips.

Can I do a Kashmir Leh Ladakh tour package with kids or elderly travelers?

It’s possible but altitude is the main factor to plan around — build in extra acclimatization time in Leh, avoid pushing straight to Khardung La and Pangong on arrival, and check with a doctor beforehand if anyone in the group has a heart or respiratory condition.

What’s the difference between this and the Leh Ladakh Kashmir combo other operators sell?

Mostly in the details — whether a genuine acclimatization day is actually built in, whether Inner Line Permits are handled for you, and whether the route runs the safer, more gradual Srinagar-to-Leh direction rather than dropping you into Leh cold by air. We build every Kashmir Leh Ladakh tour package around the road route for exactly this reason.
