Day 4: Nubra Valley to Pangong Tso via the Shyok route

The road follows the Shyok river through Durbuk and Tangtse before the lake appears, a long strip of blue that changes colour from turquoise to deep navy as the light shifts. Pangong sits at around 14,270 feet, so it feels cold even in summer. Day 5: Pangong to Leh and departure

From late October to April, snow can close or restrict Khardung La, Chang La and the Nubra and Pangong roads, many camps shut for the season, and Pangong freezes. • SIM cards for Indian guests: Postpaid connections from BSNL, Airtel and Jio usually work across Leh and most of the circuit. Prepaid SIMs from outside J&K and Ladakh generally do not, so sort this out before you fly, not after you land.
