Gondola Tickets: What to Know Before You Go
The Gulmarg Gondola is run by J&K Cable Car Corporation, and tickets are sold on the official Gondola portal. Closures and changes are posted on the cable car notices page. It runs in two phases. Phase 1 climbs to Kongdori. Phase 2 continues to the Apharwat side, with the top station close to 4,000 m. Phase 2 needs a valid Phase 1 booking.
Reported fares per person are about Rs 740 to 810 for Phase 1, Rs 900 to 1,010 for Phase 2 and Rs 1,640 to 1,820 for both. Tatkal tickets for the next day open daily at 5 PM at roughly Rs 1,100 for Phase 1 and Rs 1,300 for Phase 2. Sources differ, so treat these as a guide and let the portal be the final word. Gondola tickets are separate from ski lift tickets and are not part of our package price. Phase 2 can be unavailable on busy days, and the Gondola can pause in snowstorms or high wind.
The Gondola also stopped on 25 May 2026 after a technical fault, with more than 300 people affected who were brought down safely. An inquiry committee was formed and the Chief Minister reopened it on 25 June 2026. Refunds follow the notices the cable car company issues for each closure, but a closed Gondola still costs you a day. Keep a spare day if the Gondola is the reason for your trip. Getting to Gulmarg in Winter
Srinagar to Gulmarg is about 50 km. It takes roughly 1.5 to 2 hours in normal conditions and about 2 to 2.5 hours in winter. On snow days, the Tangmarg to Gulmarg stretch can need a 4×4 or snow chains, and regular cars may be stopped at Tangmarg.
